Creator Mag, “Where Did You Go?”

Art direction, editorial design and direction, illustrations, social posts, and event hosting for Creator Mag’s sixth issue with the theme, “Where Did You Go?” From our reporting — for showrunners and YouTube veterans Daren Vongirdner and Ava Gordy — they retired their NYC-focused content and moved to Grand Rapids to hone in on their creative vision; journalist Kat Abughazaleh moved from D.C. media to running for office in the Chicago suburbs; and for proud Chicagoan Corey Wagner, he showed us where he goes for great Italian subs. 

The Internet’s reach brings us to many places beyond imagination in our real-world lives. And for the first time, we asked our audience to submit stories and share how’d they’d answer, “Where Did You Go?” Design-wise, I sought for each story to be inspired by the self-contained worlds that each writer explored — computer screens, the great outdoors, the streets of Chicago, and more. In the bottom corners of their pages, almost every contributor submitted their handwriting; a piece of them is in each page. Like a personal letter, they welcome you to their story and space.

I also gave our mascot, Stormy, a little refresh and a pair of shoes for his journey — on the search for new contributors.

📚Short Story Long

Mid-way through developing the magazine, we hosted a storytelling workshop in collaboration with Colleen Yu’s Let’s Ripple featuring Scott Whitehair and live music from local musicians. Three stories developed during the event were featured in our magazine.
